Tip of the month by Chris Cochrane
I don’t think it is possible to remind you too often to ensure your computer system is properly backed up.

So very briefly this month – is it? If not, why not?

At a further risk of being repetitive I’m also going to point out the advantages of the Windows standards.  If you have used Microsoft Word or Outlook you may well be familiar with the editing keys (control or ctrl X, C, V and Z)

Printcost supports the standard windows cut, copy, paste commands (ctrl X for cut, ctrl C for copy and ctrl V for paste – sorry you’ll have to ask Bill Gates why ctrl V – but that’s the windows standard).

There are two ways to use cut, copy paste with in Printcost, either with text or with the detail items included in a quote or job (the activities).

Cut, Copy, Paste and Undo Text.

To cut and paste text you can mark the text – you do this by either clicking the mouse and dragging across the text, or by holding the shift key and moving the cursor.  Then you can either copy (leaves the original text and makes a copy), or cut (removes the text), then move to another place a paste the text.  Cut, copy and paste can all be used either by keyboard (ctrl X, ctrl C and ctrl V) or by right click on the mouse and selecting from the menu.  Note that when you paste text the new text will replace whatever text is marked, or insert at the cursor if nothing is marked.

You can cut copy and paste between Printcost and other standard windows programs like your word processor or email or even from email, or the internet.

Note: delete is not the same as ctrl X.  Delete does not affect the paste buffer.

Control Z is a standard windows function that undoes the editing you have done.  In Printcost this is available while you are still editing a text box.  Once you leave the text box the control Z function is disabled until you edit another text box.

Cut, Copy, Paste activities in a quote To cut, copy or paste the items (activities) in a quote.  Go to the summary screen and highlight the rows you want to copy by clicking on the top row, hold the mouse down and drag to the last row you want to copy.  Click the copy button on the right hand side of the screen.  Move to the place you want to paste (note paste inserts above the line you click on) and click the paste button.  You can even paste into a totally different quote or job. Be careful if you paste an entire part as this will not update the QEQ (quick entry quoting) part of the quote or job.

“We first installed Printcost in 1995 when the company had 35 staff, since then various modules have been added to keep up with the increasing requirements
of the company, which now has 100-plus staff. One of the biggest benefits I get from Printcost is the KPI reports. It used to take
us one hour per day to compile the spreadsheet, but now ePrintcost does it all automatically and sends it to me wherever I am in the world."
